Though no bills were able to be discussed this week since no committees actively overseeing legislation were able to meet over the past week, the senate was able to unanimously appoint Marissa Lizarraga to the elections board and, with a vote of 4-0-1. Brandon Blum was added to the senate as a presidential appointment.
At the beginning of the meeting, the senate unanimously approved the minutes of the previous meeting, and allowed guest introductions of Katherine Dolma, a senate hopeful, and Leslie Drumhiller, the new government relations director for the senate.
After closing up guest remarks, the senate moved into officer reports. Chair Quinones reported 10 hours over the past week, which were spent meeting with students, speaking with the ASUAF office manager Anne Williamson and collecting paperwork from the previous senate chair. President Mathew Carrick also claimed 10 hours for the past week, though his time was primarily spent working with the hiring committee, who will be choosing the new dean of students. Finally, Vice president Colby Freel claimed 23 hours, which were spent working on the club council bill, and Public Relations Director Hannah Witherington claimed 5 hours spent working with the LIVE office on OrgSync.
Near the end of the meeting, Senator Allyssia Garcia informed the senate about the public relations committees meeting and the possibility of a future barbeque. Senator Mickey Zakurdaew reminded the senate that the UAF Pub will be hosting a mayoral candidate Sept. 30. The meeting was then adjourned at 4:16 p.m.
