Though only the Student Affairs Committee was able to meet over the past week, the committee was able to discharge SB 185-013, a bill asking that an allotment be given to the Student Veterans of UAF club past their initial funding, unfavorably due to cooperation issues with the club, allowing the bill to later be dismissed with a vote of 0-4-1.
After beginning the weekly meeting at 4:05 p.m. Sunday afternoon in room 202 of the Gruening building, the senate unanimously approved the minutes of the previous meeting and the agenda of the current meeting, allowing them to move into officer reports. President Mathew Carrick claimed 14.5 hours over the past week spent working with the budget committee and obtaining ice cleats to provide for students in the ASUAF office. Public Relations Director Hannah Witherington claimed 9 hours over the past week spent advertising for the ASUAF elections and Government Relations Director Leslie Drumhiller claimed at least 15 hours spent working on elections and forming the Juneau advocacy team. After reports had finished, Director Witherington also announced to the senate that concert board had scheduled a concert for Dec. 4 to be held in the Wood Center Ballroom. The concert will be a showcase of local artists and is an all ages event.
Moving into first reading, interim Senate Chair Cordero Reid moved SB 185-016, a bill asking that up to $1,580 from the senate rollover fund be award to student Kenzie Holbrook for use in traveling to a conference next year, to the Student Affairs Committee. Reid moved both SB 185-017, a bill outlining ASUAF’s want for recognition when senate funds are spent, to the Internal Affairs committee, and SR 185-004, which asks that the senate encourage administration to observe Campus Sustainability Day, to the Public Relations Committee.
Lastly, the senate chose to unanimously validate the recent ASUAF elections results as well as postpone the next senate meeting until the Sunday after Thanksgiving, allowing Interim Chair Reid to call the meeting to a close at 4:45 p.m.
